1st Lesson
Dewy Vs Matte
In this lesson we are looking at creating a Matte Natural look and a Natural Dewy Look.
I think both looks are great for everyday wear, catwalk and editorial. Everyone loves the natural look, and not having to have heavy based make-up on for long periods of time, this can be bad for your skin, and personally I start to feel uncomfortable with thick make-up on.So creating this look with good coverage is key in my opinion.
To start with I like to have a clean palette so to speak, I use this great brand called Liz Earle, its natural ingredient make your skin feel great and the floral smell is perfect. Firstly you moisturise, then apply the instant boost skin tonic a.k.a. Toner, either apply soothing I lotion which helps if you have puffy bags under your eyes.
Matte Look
Step By Step
- Start with an oil-free mattifying primer. I used Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser Primer.
- Apply a full coverage foundation with a matte finish all over. I used bareMinerals SPF15 Matte. I find this saves on using a liquid foundation and pressed powder as this product is a two in one.
- If you do use a Matte liquid foundation you set it by pressing (not dusting) pressed powder into the skin I use Illamasqua translucent powder. You can either use one that matches the skin tone or translucent.
- Use a soft, natural blush to add color and dimension to the face without looking harsh I used a Primark bronzer which when applied comes out lightly and gives a natural gradient.
- With the lips I applied a matte light pink lip shade called Rouge Edition Velvet, by Bourjois.
- To finish the look off with the eyes, I used minimal mascara.
- The look is complete!

Dewy Look
Step By Step
- First I prep the skin the same with the Liz Earle, Moisturiser , toner and eye soother
- Then applied Laura Mercier Primer Protect
- I then Applied the MAC foundation with Laura Mercier Radiance and buffered into the face, neck and ears.
- On blemishes and dark circles under the eyes I applied the Laura Mercier camouflage concealer
- I then added slight definition with a browser on the cheek bones
- I then added highlighter to the tip of the nose, forehead, top of the cheek bones and chin.
- And the look is complete, dewy perfection, though my picture doesn't look like it but my camera isn't so good!

Second Lesson
In this lesson we where asked to get some inspiration make-up that was catwalk worthy. I found some images online and from a magazine article. The look is warm and glowing, one with a matte finish and one that has a slight sheen to it.
Catwalk Contour
Step By Step
- Prep the face, cleanse, tone, moisturise - On Jasmine I used the Liz Earle collection as it really compliments the skin and helps with keeping it nice and wet.
- I then got the Laura Mercier Protect and applied to the skin working from the nose out and using my fingers worked the product in an upwards motion.
- I then used my Clinique foundation mixed with the Laura Mercier Radiance foundation and applied all over face. neck and ears with a Oval brush, and then buffing brush to get a clean finish on the skin.
- I then applied my Laura Mericer Camouflage Concealer under the eyes, corner of the nose and chin. And worked into the skin until all skin had the same shade.
- I then mixed the Concealer to create a darker shade for under the cheek bones, temple, forehead and nose line.
- Once applied, I then buffed into the skin to create the shadowed areas.
- I set the skin with Banana powder.
- Now working with powders as the skin is set I went in and defined the skin further with a bronzer.
- To highlight the skin, I used Revlon Baked Illuminator and Highlited the Forehead, nose line to tip, top of the cheeks, cupids bow and chin.
- I then applied Carmex to the lips to give them shine.
- On the eyes, I applied a light cream all over the lid, and then in the corner to open the eyes more a darker pink. Under the eye I used the same dark pink.
- As Jasmine has beautiful long lashes I wanted to make her eyes the centre of attention and applied a delicate layer of mascara top and bottom.
- The look is complete and has a warm glow, with a hint of innocence with the pinky colour applied to lips and eyes.
