The Brands

The BRANDS

In this project we where given a list of brands to choose from to create our ideas for Editorial, Advertisement and Catwalk look. Below are two of the brands from the list that I thought would, not only be my style but help push the boundaries with makeup and present them in a different light, but still sticking to their style also.

ILLAMASQUA

So my first option is Illamasqua, they are a British beauty brand that has taken the world by storm, by telling people to wear their make-up loud and proud. Illamasqua have a unique way of presenting their brand in a art deco style and advertisement in a theatrical and 'out of this world' manner.

"Edgy new British make-up company that is theatrical, playful and bold with it"

"I'm a bit of a punk rocker at heart and I felt like there needed to be a new brand to stir up the market. I'm a brand builder and my proximity to make-up more through youth culture. In the very early days when I sat there with a blank piece of paper thinking about Illamasqua, I always remember writing that this brand had to give women the permission to wear make-up loud, proud and bolder than they ever have done. I certainly came into the make-up sector with the intent to revitalise it and take artistry to the next level. For my role, I never had any intention to direct a look, but rather inspire it." To me I think this brand captures the attention from the public to the professionals, due to its unconventional looks and its beautiful and highly pigmented colours. Their advertisements are always imaginative and evoke the passion from the everyday person to students and to professional make-up artists.  To me, this is a key quality.

Looking at just an handful of their collections makes you feel like you are in another world and start your creativity flowing.  I think with each advert  or product they aim to grasp the attention of the public and professionals to be drawn into this alternate universe and therefore become more creative with how you want to look and use the products, they also like the social media world and promote others in the profession when using their brand, which makes the brand even popular.

Overall, I think that Illamasqua is so diverse in the way they present each look. If I where to choose this brand it is like a blank canvas, ready to paint and create another new world for people to find themselves and get lost in.

GIVENCHY

Hubert de Givenchy was born to an aristocratic family in Beauvais, France, on February 21, 1927. After attending art school, he worked for several fashion designers in Paris and then opened his own design house in 1952, he was immediately praised for his chic, feminine designs.

One of Givenchy's most famous affiliates was actress Audrey Hepburn, who wore his designs in Breakfast at Tiffany's and Charade, among other films. Givenchy continued to design for decades, officially retiring in the mid-1990s.

The designs continue to break the boundaries in fashion but continue to stick to tradition in their clean cut clothing.

After selling his business to the luxury conglomerate Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessey in 1988, Givenchy designed for seven more years, retiring and presenting his final collection in 1995. He was succeeded as head designer by enfant terrible John Galliano, with Alexander McQueen and Riccardo Tisci later serving as head designers.

His work has been shown in retrospective exhibitions at theFashion Institute of Technology in New York and the Musée Galliera in Paris, and he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America in 1996.

Catwalk

Overall, I think that Givenchy has such a diverse collection of images, they are always creative in the way they style the clothing and the makeup is always out of this world also. The seem to always steal the show as they just have such an alternative way in displaying the work.

So which brand to choose, they all are great and all seem to give me ideas for each one. However, the one that I think i will have the most fun with, and really have a diverse and creative out of this world looks for editorial, advertisement and catwalk is Illamasqua. They seem to tick all the boxes for me, empowering women to be creative, having really different advertiment in videos and images. I now need to think how I can channel Illamasqua into my designs and see where they take me.
