The Evaluation

My overall design is very complimenting to the why the model looks and how the image as a whole is laid out. The colouring was the really important park for me, for example the background and the chosen product and the style in the wig. It all needed to flow together to create a strong image and for the viewer to enjoy the image as well. If I had to make any changed I would have maybe removed the blue chiffon dray from the day look as it annoys me that it is in the corner, however, this is my own fault as I should have removed it in the shoot, but didn't notice it until editing stages and it was in every shot. So no time worrying about something that cannot be changed because overall on the advert, I think it looks wonderful.

With the accessories, wig, clothing and make-up the look fitted really well however on camera you can't quite see the brush strokes that well, so if I where able to shoot again I would have made them more pronounced so you could really see she looks like a paining. The wig was the best and main theme throughout, it was the link that joined each look together from advert to editorial to catwalk. I changed the scene within the wig each time to make sure the viewer can tell that the are witnessing a complete different look and to keep in the theme of oil paintings of the 1700's as they told stories with objects being held and I really wanted to convey that, but with a wig instead. 

The colour scheme was exactly what I wanted as you can see from the other blog post on my test shoot with the studio I kept to the same colour and lighting arrangement to make sure that the look came out just as I wanted and not have to worry that the lighting was all wrong, throwing off the background and the shadows on the model. The overall lighting and colour scheme came out just as planned which I am really happy about as I had so many other things to worry about, I new that was safe. 

Overall I am so happy with the outcome it was just as I imagined it and drew it. Everything fell into place, it didn't take long as I was super organised on the shoot. If I were to do this again I would just make the make-up more pronounced and remove the chiffon from the corner on the day shoot. I enjoyed every moment of this shoot and hope you do too.


My key questions for my evaluation:

What do you think of the overall design ?  What changes would you make ? Are you happy with the materials you chose ?  Would you make adjustments next time ? Is the colour scheme exactly what you expected ?  What alterations would you make ? Did the project take too long to make ?  Would this alter the cost of manufacture ? Would it be easy to set up a production line for the manufacture of your solution ? Is your solution safe ?  Could it be made safer ? Are the techniques you used to make your solution adequate or would you use a different range of manufacturing techniques ? Is the solution the right size/shape ? What are the views of other people regarding your design ? Does it work ?  What changes are required ?

With these editorial shoots I wanted to follow the story from my advertisement. The wig being the key element, with different grand designs in them to help tell the story of finding your inner royalty. The location really helped with this being in an old manor house, Rofant House in Crawley near where I live. It really helped set the mood and style I wanted. The top image a close up was to be the day and light sweet natured image to showcase the lipstick, I made sure to really make the models freackles stand out to go along with this theme. In the darker shoot I mixed together the rich gold dress with the red surroundings to really make the model pop out more instead of blending in. Overall these shoots where great, the models where perfect and helped out so much, and my photographer and good friend Lee Foulger really made the whole experience easy and got the image I wanted. If I where to do this again I would have really wanted to do some outside shots but due to the owner of the manor house this was not possible on the day of shooting.

Looking to find shine in a different form.

Jeff Koons plays with ideas of taste, pleasure, celebrity, and commerce. “I believe in advertisement and media completely,” he says. “My art and my personal life are based in it.” Working with lush commercial materials, such as the 'high chromium stainless steel' of his “Balloon Dog” sculptures or his vinyl “Inflatables”, shifts of scale, and an elaborate studio system involving many technicians, Koons turns banal objects into high art icons. 

His paintings and sculptures borrow widely from art-historical techniques and styles; although often seen as ironic or tongue-in-cheek, Koons insists his practice is earnest and optimistic. “I’ve always loved Surrealism and Dada and Pop, so I just follow my interests and focus on them,” he says. “When you do that, things become very metaphysical.” 

The images below, although they don't fit into my project necessary, however, the high shine made me think, what if I made my models skin shine like an oil painting not just have thick paint marks.

Advertisement Shoot - Behind the scenes

Just a few shots of us having fun and me getting my model ready for the shoot. I had such great fun on this shoot, as it was my first shoot and everything  went to plan though we did stay a little later than expected but it was due to getting all the light down and away in the studio. 

Overall, there would be nothing changed in this shoot or the outcome of the images they where just as I wanted! Cannot wait to edit them!

Week Seven Reflection

This Wednesday was the timed assessment for group A so I still have time to perfect my look and keep doing practice runs on myself each night, as group B is next week. 

I am excited to get this done and out the way and keep to my timed schedule to keep on top of my blog and submit early!

Moschino & The Rococo Frame

The aim in the fashion industry is to produce the best designs of the season and present them in an even wilder way than they had done before, and with Moschino that was taken literally, as models were sent down the runway in scorched dresses, rapped around wire, in chandeliers and looking like they had just be put out with smoke rising from them.  

Moschino's head designer Jeremy Scott is a famous for having a theme and that was clear from the outset of his AW16 collection.

"The set for his runway collection was made up of ashen bars and blackened pianos as eager famous faces such as Charli XCX made themselves comfortable in ageing silk chairs."

Unlike your average runway, models marched to the beat of their own drum as they twirled down the runway in what can only be described as pure theatre. This is what made me think yes! Perfect for my idea and how can I combine Moschinos raw presentation with my own?

In one of the shots, one model posed in the frame of a mirror in a ravaged gown that was still smoking as she appeared to leap at the heat of her own dress! The outfit was easily the designer's showstopper, flaunting an asymmetrical hem and blackened scorch marks, and was paired with long black gloves, this made me think, how could I combine the fashion with my own, the silks, the gold and red dresses made me think my night editorial shoot clothing could mimic these designs, just not burnt...

In another amazing moment is when one model appeared on the runway encased inside a giant crystal chandelier! This made my jaw drop!

So I tried to create a look that best fits my own designs and came up with the images below, I found a frame and edited it on photoshoot to have my image underneath. I then applied on top of my image so cracked paint (seen in the bottom image) to have that old classic feel. I do like them but don't think I will have this as my final image. But great inspiration still!

Face and Hair charts for Catwalk, Advertisement and Editorial looks

Face Charts for Catwalk Advertisement and Editorial

When trying to create the best catwalk look with my theme of texture, and to also coincide with Illamasqua's style, I really wanted to go out of the 'box' to create a variety of face charts that included texture. So I looked at different mediums I could use, paint, fullers earth, pearls, ivy etc. 

So below the first face chart was to have a simple glowing face, eyebrows lighting drawn on/ a bit bushy at the front. Then on the cheeks have pearls stuck onto the face as a highlighter and a pearl/pink lip. for the day look. If I where to do this for the night look I would simply change the lip colour to a dark plum or black.

My second idea was to have the same as the first, the simple foundation glow base and then to get powder paint and splatter this on the face. so you really get the sense of the different mediums. 

My third look was to incorporate the first two, pearl all over the face on the brows, down the nose on the contour of the cheeks, then get a gold powder paint and splatter this over the face. 

My fourth and final look was to have the simple base again, and on the lids and brows have gold leaf. And to link to my hair chart a butterfly on the mouth. 

This fourth design is my favourite and the one I will use for my times assessment. It is simple but effective and brings across my theme well and links to the wig I have done and Illamasqua.

Hair Charts for Catwalk/ Editorial/ Advert Looks

So which one to choose for each look! 

Catwalk

For Catwalk it will be the birds nest hair style in the wig with blue birds around the head and small white flowers, the face will be the dewey skin, light pink eyes and pink lips, and sprayed with water.

Advertisement Day & Night

With the make-up in this day and night look I want the difference to be the lipstick, and the base of the foundation is basically the same with just a few differences. 

So with the day it will be a light skin could all over the face where you can see the brush strokes, then over the top of that apply more white and different toned colours to make it look like she is painted.

Editorial Day and Night

With my editorial looks they will have the same basis apart from the added freckles on the day look. The hair will be similar but with the change of butterflies, the night will have gold and white and the day will have white and lavender and maybe a bird or two.
