MAC

In these MAC adverts they show colour and creativity. The Flamingo one is what drew me into looking at their lines, as they have a really cutie way of presenting their work and their products. As I was inspired by the Marie Antoinette film, where they heavily use soft pastel colours to enhance the richness of the characters, I watched these short film advertisements and they really have that quality as well. 

They make the viewer look on in a different mind set and help them become consumed in the product and the creative way they present it. It helps them also become more creative themselves in the application of the product. 

With my work I really was to highlight the lips as that is my product, but also get the surroundings and fashion to mimic this also. 

Creating the ink drop - Advertisement

For my advertisement shoot I am wanted to create the day and night look basically the same, the difference being, the lipstick, the background lighting and the wig. 

I want to have the model on one side of the page either slightly looking at the camera or to have their profile looking at the other side of the page which has the product on in. Now as always I want to be difficult and present the product in a ink droplet. Below are some I have created from online images of the lipstick from Illamasqua and an ink drop by Alberto Seveso. He created these beautiful images of think ink that look like mini galaxies. This is something that is hard to do, but with the help of my photographer friend who has his own studio and the equipment that can capture this look. My main inspiration came for a series of images found on pintrest, they are a beautiful way to create different forms of texture and presenting the product. The ink links into my designs as I am following the line of texture and showing I am influenced by many means, ink, paint, powder etc.

So to create this I basically got the ink image from the online source and the lipstick and put them into Photoshop. I then selected the part of the image I wanted to and copied this to another page with a white background.  I then selected from the image of the ink the bottom half and copied this, for later. 

I went and did the same to the lipstick and pasted this onto the ink image. With the bottom ink part I copied I overlaid this on top of the lipstick to make it look like it was already there. I then changed the colouring and shaded the areas to make it look like the lipstick is sitting there. 

I also added text into it with the collection name 'Find The Royalty Within' I chose this as from my idea of Marie Antoinette, she was a royal, the lipsticks chosen have a royal finish and colour and the ink drops fit with that as the colours are so rich and intense.

I have tried this with my final image and it just doesn't look right. I am annoyed as I loved the idea, however I not happy with how it looked with the images taken in the studio they just didn't match so back to the drawing board! 

Week Six Reflection

So this week we got to test out one of our shoots in the studio session which was so good as I now know what I want to do for my advertisement and have booked in the studio for Tuesday to shoot it for my final images! which is exciting and a bit nerve-racking but I know what I want how to set it up and have to get the look so no worries... hopefully! 

In Lotties lesson I had a bit of a stupid moment, I knotted up one of the dolls hair very badly but the outcome on another doll head turned out fine! Don't know how I did it but Lottie fixed it so no harm done!

We also got to test our make-up and hair look for our chosen Catwalk looks to do as a test run which was good as well as I got to see what face-chart worked best and which I one I like the best and is best to do in the timed assessment! 

Overall this week was fun in what we got to do and I have managed to get a lot of work done and get everything structured so I don't loose where I am which is really good for my mental state! 

Timed Assessment

I came into the timed assessment confident in my design and procedure, I had made sure I had all the equipment and the list of how to do the look in a short time frame. 

I laid out all my products, set my model up in her clothing and bib to prepare for the assessment. I had all my designs and procedure on the mirror to stick to. I feel that the assessment went better than I had anticipated and the images showcase that. 

The look is clean, neat and shows the painting effect that I wanted. The camera settings didn't really pick up the oil look I wanted but it came out with a soft finish which looks beautiful. 

My application of the wig we very well also, I have got the accessories already laid out and already new where to put them in the wig before putting in on my model. 

Overall, the look went exactly to plan and if I were to do this again I wouldn't really change anything, the only fault I can think of is maybe next time change the camera settings to really show the oil on the face so she looked more shiny. 

However, I loved this outcome and I did it in under an hour which really made me proud of my final Catwalk look.  

Butterfly inspiration

So for my editorial Day look I really wanted to incorporate butterflies onto the face and in the wig itself. I found the images below on instagram and google just looking around and taking inspiration on where to place the butterflies on the face. The main image that really made me fall in love with the idea is the one with Justin Dingwall (Top left image) his contrast of white skin against the subtle coloured butterflies is so soft and gentle. I really want to imitate this on the skin of my model for this look. My model also has freckles and I think that when it comes to the shoot I will make them more pronounced to have that really sweet and innocent look with the gentle butterflies placed on top.

When actually attaching them to the face, I think my best bet is to use Duo glue, hold it there for a bit and then they will be stuck, simple but effective. Cannot wait to get down and do this shoot just currently waiting for my photographer to be free to get the look done!

Inspiration for skin

Paint and powder

So my inspiration is texture so I really wanted to have a good look at what other artists have created with wet looks, painted look, materials etc.

I want to be able to say I have done them all and found what works best for me and my shoot!

Test Images of the Lighting and backdrops for advert

So in the studio I wanted to have a test of the lighting with the wig and butterflies. I was thinking I wanted to have a Yousuf Karsh lighting effect, which is very hollywood looking, shadowed. But when I took the pictures they came out way to dark and didn't suit the look.

So I went back to the drawing board and looked at 1700's/1800's portrait artists paintings. Giovanni Battista Lampi, Meister der Erzherzoginnenportraits and Louise Élisabeth Vigée Le Burn. They all have the soft quality with lighting, from above and at the side making the main glow on the face of the sitter, which makes the veiwers eye go straight to their faces and then look around at the rest of the scene. 

So I went back into the studio, and set up the lighting with a boom light to have the light from above, I then got a slave light at the side facing the side of the model and the background. 

The background was a little too dark but this can be easily changed, but the main thing is that the face is lit, there isn't a shadow under the wig and the soft lighting is achieved. Which I think came out rather will below you can see the before and after editing that I did on the text image. 

I lightened the back drop, and softened her face. I have over done it but this is the idea I have to make her look porcelain in the day shoot and for the night one have a dark backdrop and very textured skin. 

So for my actual shoot, I will set up the light the same as the images below which I took in the studio to remind myself how I did it. I may even add an extra light behind to light the backdrop a bit more. I also will be testing out with the butterflies  stuck onto the back drop and see how that comes out.
